Funding to operate expanded Summer Youth employment opportunities, and to provide as many youth as possible with summer employment opportunities and other work experience outside of the summer months. Eligible participants must be 14 up to, and including, 24 years of age and have barriers to employment which are outlined in the Workforce Investment Act.

| Flow of Funds |
NYSDOL administers the funding. At least 85% of funds are passed down to NYS’ 33 Local Workforce Investment Areas for youth participant training and supportive services, local area staff and other operational costs. The remaining 15% of the funds are retained at the state to support innovative training programs and to support local area oversight, technical assistance and administrative activities. Disbursement occurs at the state and local level.

| Eligible Entries |
Educational institutions, such as Community Colleges, BOCES programs, and school districts. In addition, duly incorporated for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, including Community based organizations (CBO’s) and Local Workforce Investment Areas that are eligible to do business in New York State are eligible to apply. A WIA Grant Recipient may apply on behalf of a Local Workforce Investment Board that is not incorporated.
