Federal Program Description Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). The WIC program provides grants to states for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non–breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk.

ARRA Reporting MIS funds require an application and an Advanced Planning Document. USDA monitors expenditures and performance via monthly grant reporting, in addition to ARRA Section 1512 reporting requirements.  Reporting requirements for the $400 million for caseload support have not been set; however, these monies must be tracked separately.

Program Funding
National Total $500 million: $400 million for expenses attributable to increased caseload and/or increased food costs; $100 million in discretionary funds to be awarded competitively to States for management information systems (MIS) projects with electronic benefit (EBT) ready activities receiving priority.
NYS Share $28.6 for food costs; unknown for MIS grants
Flow of Funds Allocation for increased costs based on existing monthly caseload and expenditure projections from states which identify a funding shortfall to maintain caseload. Monies  distributed as separately-coded food grant.
Deadline $99 million of WIC MIS funds will be allocated to WIC State agencies in FY 2009 and FY 2010 and obligated over the next four years by the States.
